“IL MARINAIO” (THE SAILOR)

Bronze – tourist harbour of San Vincenzo (Livorno)

YEAR: 2010

“Il Marinaio” (The Sailor) is a 20-metre/787,40-inch bronze statue, designed and realized by Giampaolo Talani for the new tourist harbour of San Vincenzo.

In the author’s view, the sailor is conceived as memory and hope as well as the symbol of a community and a territory looking at the future. The poetic strength of Talani’ sailor comes from the depiction of a man sailing the sea of life with his paper boat full of dreams, and dipping his feet into the salt water, with his heart full of love.
