it happened on a day of heavy rain and it was on this rainy day that I learned of the death of the painter Giampaolo Talani. That evening the rain kept beating down on Florence with its continuous thumping, it seemed that the city too was in mourning for the death of the painter who, with his great fresco in the Santa Maria Novella station, greeted the arrival and departure of travellers from all over the world.
